Never has it been truer that a picture can say a thousand words. Today, we communicate by emojis, sending photographs, and sharing funny clips. When we creatively tell our stories and express emotions, these mediums are often more effective than written or spoken words.
Art Therapy is creativity with a purpose.
Now, consider using creative expression as a therapeutic tool, drawing, painting, or collaging can help to:
- Calm anxiety
- Express emotions
- Navigate trauma
- Build self-esteem
- Slow a racing mind
- Work through grief or loss
- Navigate neurodivergence.
Life can be tough, and we often find it hard to manage our emotions, communicate effectively, or make decisions.
While we usually turn to family and friends for support, sometimes that isn't enough. This is where talking to a counselor can be helpful. Counselling offers a safe space to work through your feelings and make sense of your circumstances. It can help you find better ways to deal with your mental health, relationships, and life.
One of the bravest things you can do is explore and express your own emotions while working towards improved mental health.
Art therapy - “Looking back on my time with Adele as my art therapist, I am grateful for the valuable insights she provided. Through our art therapy sessions, she helped me discover and understand deep emotions, and encouraged me to express myself freely. While the process was challenging at times and brought tears to my eyes, her guidance and reflection offered hope and a newfound sense of understanding. The safe space she created allowed me to explore my inner world through art, leading to moments of self-awareness, growth and clarity in my decisions. I carry the lessons and valuable insights she shared with me, and I appreciate the transformative impact she had on my journey of healing and self-discovery.” - M.C

Hello, my name is Adele.
Since 2018, I have had the privilege of working as a mental health professional. I provide online and face-to-face services, specialising in creative client-centred mental health care.
Originally from South Africa, our family have called Australia home since 2008, relocating to Merimbula in 2022 and we love living here. I am privileged to run an Art Therapy group for Penrith Women's Health working with domestic and family violence survivors and also providing face-to-face services from Sapphire Centre here in Merimbula.
Professionally, my work ethic and interests are influenced by being part of a neurodivergent family also by my lived experiences volunteering in aged care and being a trauma survivor.
Those closest to me know me as empathic, creative, and slightly quirky.
